Dear ACF members,
Thank you all very much for your support of our annual conference last year. We had very positive feedback from speakers and guests.
We have noted continued development in competition law in Asia in the last year especially in ASEAN countries. Many jurisdictions in Asia have adopted or will soon adopt a competition regime that includes a normative law and an enforcement mechanism. The next pressing issue in many countries is the enforcement agenda. Issues such as which anticompetitive practices or sectors to target, the temptation to take easy cases at the expense of more complex investigations, political interference, judicial challenges often based on procedure rather than substance, funding priorities and inter-agency rivalry. We have thus decided to adopt this as the theme for our annual conference. "Establishing Sound Enforcement Priorities and Processes" will be the focus of the conference this year which will be held in Hong Kong on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th December, 2012.
We would therefore like to invite you to indicate your interest in presenting a paper at the conference on the theme of the conference by sending to Samantha Ma (afsma@inet.polyu.edu.hk or fax: (852) 2330 9845) on or before 30 June 2012 a title and an abstract of your proposed contribution. A decision will be made on submissions by 31st August 2012. ACF will be able to provide hotel accommodation and meals to presenters and we may also have some money to help with airfares depending on the availability of sponsorship. If you are able to cover your own travel costs that would be very helpful. If you do not wish to present but merely attend, we welcome your participation and we will issue a registration form in due course.
If you or your organization / institute would like to sponsor the Conference, please feel free to let me know so we may discuss further details.
Best Regards,
Mark Williams
